"Shorty" Tenor Replica 50's Selmer Short Shank Soloist
Now Hand Finished!! (With CNC Perfect Facing)

Retro Revival’s Tenor “Shorty” is our stunning replica of the 1950’s Selmer “Soloist”, coined by pros as the 'scroll shank' or 'short shank’.
This classic Selmer mouthpiece was known for its warmth, fast articulation and great intonation. The “Soloist” was most notably demonstrated by the great Joe Henderson for his entire career and currently by monster musicians such as Joe Henderson, Richy Perry and Gary Campbell.
The Retro Revival “Shorty” replica, with it’s 'horseshoe chamber' captures that inherently warm mid-range beauty and will easily let you play gritty and ferociously when pushed harder.
Original untouched 'Short Shank' Selmers are very difficult to locate and rarely found with tip openings larger than a “D”. Our Retro Revival “Shorty” is available with "F-G-H- tip openings.
Our “Shorty” was modeled and cloned from a spectacular playing “Scroll Shank” from our private collection which happened to be a .105 tip refaced by tenor master Jerry Bergonzi some years ago. The Selmer design had beautiful qualities, but many Jazz players felt it was stuffy and lacked bottom.
