Berg Larsen was originally known as a professional musician and reed maker in Archer Street London.  In 1945, he designed and manufactured a range of ebonite mouthpieces for clarinet and saxophone which later evolved into a range made out of stainless steel for an increased lifespan. Berg Larsen Mouthpieces have a unique design: a small chamber with flat side walls and beautiful side rails.  

The Retro Revival "UK Special" hard rubber baritone is a beautiful replica of my 1950’s Berg Larsen 110/2 model. This amazing performing mouthpiece was originally played by the legendary Hollywood woodwind specialist Gene Cipriano, who used this mouthpiece on countless recordings and soundtracks.  When I first tried this mouthpiece I knew it was very special, a one of a kind, which I continue to play to this day thanks to Mr. Gene Cipriano “Cip”.  I always wanted to duplicate this this old treasure because of it’s fat, dense sound. We are very excited to offer our Retro Revival replica, it barks, it articulates and is stunningly positive in the low register.

After the 70’s,  Berg Larson changed designs and lost quality and performance, so it makes this vintage Berg very rare. We feel this model is superior and the best sounding baritone mouthpiece for all purposes. Like all of our Retro replicas, this one is CNC milled and made from the highest quality German rod rubber. The "UK Special” is a tedious and time consuming mouthpiece to machine and hand finish, and we believe the performance will more than justify your investment. This is the baritone mouthpiece that will serve you for your lifetime. The hand craftsmanship and expert facing curve is the real magic. The Retro Revival mouthpieces are always play tested to our highest standards to achieve consistency and maximum playability. Our "UK Special" is based on the original Bullet Chamber design which maximizes projection and tonal clarity, it speaks clearly in the altissimo and it tunes with precision in all registers. The precious Berg models of the 50’s are almost impossible to find, so we are thrilled to offer our rebirth of this rare gem. For the time being, we have decided to only offer the # 2 chamber, as it produces a beefy and flexible sound with plenty of bark and buzz. The Berg numbering styles include 95 = The first number is the tip opening in thousand's of an inch  ( 95 = .095 )  The second number indicates baffle height/brightness. ( # 3 is the darkest and 0 is the brightest ) Standard Tip openings are  available from .095  through 120. Each piece is Precision Crafted and has a great facing curve and fast response.
